Rogers Slide

Rogers Slide is easily visible from the Ticonderoga Black Point Beach or by boat when traveling on Lake George. The slide rises approximately 700′ from the surface of Lake George.

Major Robert Rogers commanded a British Ranger during the French & Indian War. On March 13, 1758, Rogers’ Rangers ambushed a French-Indian column only to be then ambushed themselves by enemy forces. The French originally reported killing Rogers but this was based on their finding some of his belongings, including his regimental coat containing his military commission. Rogers, however, had escaped. This episode gave rise to the legend of Rogers’ sliding 400 feet down the side of a mountain to the frozen surface of Lake George. It is more likely that he descended a ravine and made it to the lake. The rock face is now known as “Rogers’ Slide” or “Rogers Rock.”
